Today I want to talk to you about finding the expertise that you have inside you.
Do you get anxious thinking about what you’re going to say to introduce yourself?
I interviewed Emma Cox, from Cox Consultancy, on how we can make networking much less stressful and more effective for us, even as introverts who dislike it!
here’s my 3 key steps to do it by coming from a place of deep connection with what you want and WHY you want it.
Do you feel like a failure and tell yourself that your content must be rubbish ?
It can feel really tough when you put your heart and soul into creating great content that you feel will be really useful for your ideal clients.
You spend a long time creating just the right tone and quality, and including the just the right number of useful snippets.
You pluck up courage to send it out and then …
You immediately get people unsubscribing – deleting you from their inbox and banishing you forever more into oblivion.
It hurts, I know, but it doesn’t have to crush you, and actually it’s a really good thing!
I’ve noticed the more content I put out into the world, the more I get people unsubscribing, and now I actually celebrate when it happens.
It shows me that I’m getting bolder in putting out more of ‘me’ into my message, and as I get clearer on what my message is, and begin to share that with the world, the more I’m becoming a ‘beacon’ – guiding my ideal people to want to learn more from me.
(And I know that I’m not right for everyone, and I’m really ok with that!)
Take heart, that when people unsubscribe, you are showing up in just the right way for your ideal clients to say YES to you. (And you know that because those who are NOT right for you are saying Goodbye by unsubscribing).
I’d been working for weeks on using Facebook Ads; I’d grappled with the tech, I’d done my Audience research, I’d written and rewritten and tweaked the Ad copy, I’d set everything up so I could track the effectiveness of each element in a spreadsheet, I’d followed a training course to the letter to set it up to work for me…..
and then it didn’t.
Facebook has very strict rules on the wording and tone that can be used in your adverts, and something I wrote caused the ad to be rejected.
I’d worked SO hard, and done everything ‘right’ and still it didn’t work for me.
Has that ever happened to you?
Maybe you spent a long time learning a new piece of software to make your life easier, or you worked out a detailed plan for doing something and spent weeks implementing it and
… It . Just . Doesn’t . Work .
There’ll be times as a solopreneur when you just want to quit – it all feels too much, you want to just give it all up because it’s too hard and complicated, and have an easy predictable life instead.
After working so hard and so long to get something set up, sometimes, through no fault of your own, stuff just doesn’t work out.
How do you salvage something useful out of the ruins?
I’ve had lots of people unsubscribe from my list recently.
The more emails I send out, the more I seem to have people decide they no longer want to hear from me.
Not so long ago I would have been crushed – knowing that at one point these people had signed up wanting to learn something useful from me, and now they’ve rejected me – decided what I’ve got is ‘not good enough’ and not worth their time.
Can you relate?
Even now it’s a small blow to my ego and sense of self worth … I send an email and immediately someone unsubscribes. Ouch!
There’s a small part of me that’s saying ‘Yes!’, with relief and “ok-ness” .
As I put myself ‘out there’ more and more, I’ve been sharing valuable content, and also inviting people to move closer to me in various ways, and even offering things for sale.
I want you to be clear that when (not if!) this happens to you, you’ll know how to handle it with grace and ease.
If someone unsubscribes and you find yourself ‘drowning’ in negative stuff – you need to read this.
I was one of the speakers at the first Your Signature Success Story event in Kenilworth, UK. It was my first big speaking event (and I got to wear a microphone pack, and it was filmed (just to increase the pressure a bit!)
I met such amazing, inspirational women, my talk was a great success and I made some great connections that will help my business grow, increase my reach and mean that I can help many more people.
And it all started with one conversation.
And what led to that conversation was my heartfelt desire to reach more people through speaking.
I have a vision and a yearning to tell my story and to inspire other sensitive introverts; to teach what I know about coming out of your shell and overcoming your fear of being visible, and what it takes to feel confident to attract paying clients so you can make the difference in the world that you’re here to make.
Yet are you held back by your fear … of stepping into the unknown, of getting it ‘wrong’ and being stuck with a wrong decision, or of being ridiculed and rejected for your ideas?
I know how that feels, it’s frustrating and paralysing .
Yet I know that fear doesn’t have to stop you….
The journey to your business success starts with being kind to yourself and compassionate with your fears (you can watch a video I created about this here)
The rest can be summarised like this…
when Sue Williams, asked me if I would come and speak at her Your Signature Success conference in September 2016.
My first thought was “Hell yes, I’d love to”
My next thoughts were of logistics – How can I organize dogcare, childcare, and travel down to the Midlands (I live near Stirling in central Scotland).
I was feeling great, I’m passionate about speaking on the topic of Overcoming the Fear of Visibility (that’s my life’s work!) I know it’s a powerful topic and I’m comfortable and confident speaking about it (once I get into my flow!)
Then I read the event page and about all the expert speakers (some of whom I recognize as ‘famous’ people), and my stomach lurched in fear and dread.
A voice in me piped up
“Who are you to be speaking alongside all of these?”
“They’ve had years of experience, and you’re just starting out …. “
“You’re not worthy…. “ etc,etc.
Later on that day, my fear crossed the tracks into excitement when I read that a VIP ticket includes dinner with the speakers …
Once you’ve figured out who you’re trying to reach, what they’re struggling with and what they’d be prepared to PAY for help with, then you can move on to creating your online foundations to start attracting clients.
Building foundations will enable you to gather a community of people around you who love what you do, and who also buy from you and recommend you to their friends.
I’m going to share with you 3 things that you must have in place to attract and nurture people who will eventually want to BUY from you.
– Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linked In (not to mention Blab and Periscope … if you don’t know what they are don’t worry, I’m not sure either!) ?
Do you spend a lot of time and energy wondering what to put on your Facebook business page, and look at others who post several times a day with engaging content, and feel inadequate because you’re not keeping up ?

We’re told we have to be active, be seen, create content, engage with people.
We end up chasing Likes and Follows, and Shares – and we think we’re making progress – it feels good to have people engaging with our content, and it feels really productive.
But here’s the truth.
