As a heart-centred business owner, it’s easy to get swept away with the idea of making a difference in the world, and forget about actually making a profit.

I interviewed Helen Monaghan, finance coach and best selling author of Successful Business Minds, about what it really takes to make a business work, and how we can deal with our ‘money stuff’, so that we can create a business and a life that we love.

[Video Interview] The Difference between Barriers and Boundaries (and how to feel good about doing scary things!)

Last week I interviewed the lovely Jennifer Main, Transformational Guide and bestselling author of ‘The Space Between’.

I was asking Jennifer about how we can protect ourselves from getting hurt, as sensitive introverts in business, and how we can get over our fears especially when going networking.

If you’re anything like me, going to a crowded networking event takes a lot of courage and energy, and for some of us it can often feel like a hurdle we just cannot leap.

When I spoke with Jennifer, there unfolded a fascinating conversation about the difference between barriers and boundaries and how we can feel good about doing scary things!

tax

When you’re first starting out in self employment, the whole issue of tax and accounting can be a big worry.

It might be one of those things that you leave to the very last minute, not getting clear information and just hoping you’ll be able to figure it out at some point ‘later’.

I want to introduce you to Rosie Slosek, who brings order and calm to all those of us who are anxious and worried about tax and accounting. She’s down to earth, explains things in clear, simple English and is a mine of useful information (she’s also fun and loves cake!)

I interviewed Rosie to get some answers to questions that might be useful for you if you’re just starting in business (in the UK).

You’ll find the answers to the following puzzles:

  • Do you need to be earning money before you’re in business? How to know whether you’ve started ‘trading’.
  • How to know if you’re a sole trader or a company.
  • What records do you have to keep when you’re first starting out in business?

But wait, there’s more!

When you’re a heart-centred self employed woman, you want to make your website as effective as it can be, right?!

Yet it’s really common to spend months tweaking the page content…

Fear of being thrust into the spotlight, fear of being judged or criticised …

It feels really uncomfortable and also frustrating as the website is such an important piece to get right!

I recently had a very interesting conversation about this with Keri Dawn, a website and social media expert, who also runs a thriving, supportive community on Facebook.

Do You Want…

  • A website that’s effective in attracting clients?
  • To know who your ‘ideal clients’ are, but still not sure?
  • To banish your tech fears around creating your own web pages ?

Social Media fearOk so having conceded that social media can be a good thing, (after my last post)

You might be asking yourself – How can I maintain that balance between showing enough of the real me while at the same time maintaining my privacy and boundaries.

Does that resonate with you?

You too might be wondering,

How can you stretch outside your comfort zone to be more visible … and why should you?

In the second of three interviews, I chat with social media expert Holly Worton, from Socially Holistic, to demystify social media and begin to take away the fear.

Watch this 11 minute video to find out:

  • How to figure out what’s right for you – where are your sharing boundaries?
  • Why it’s so important to be even a teensy bit vulnerable
  • How to build up a rich resource of ideas that move and inspire you
  • Why it’s so important to be *YOU*

This is something that I’m passionate about, yet I find it really hard too!

At risk of sounding like a gibbering idiot, I wondered whether I should edit out all the umms and errrmmss and mistakes in my questioning – but I decided not to because I don’t want to end up sounding slick and polished … that’s not me!!

So there you have it –  a simple conversation with important tips about how to make social media more ‘do-able’ for you.

Over To You:

Have you found your ‘right level’ of sharing on social media yet?

Who do you admire, or particularly warm to, online?

Please pass it on!

Social Media fearDoes the term ‘social media’ strike fear into your bones and have you running for the hills?

Or do you wonder what all the fuss is about, and are happy to avoid it altogether?

I have a love/hate relationship with social media – I dabble, and then come away because I find it overwhelming! There’s also that ever present fear of being visible … Does that resonate with you ?

I wanted to learn more about it, and how it could work *for* me and not against me (uphill struggles I do not like!)

In this first of three interviews, I chat with social media expert Holly Worton, from Socially Holistic, to demystify social media and begin to take away the fear.

Holly works with heart centred women in business, coaches, healers to help them use social media to grow their business.

I first ‘met’ Holly on Twitter, and I responded to a question she posed … I then followed a link to her website and found she had created videos on how to create videos !

I’ve learned first hand (even only dabbling!) that social media is really powerful for bringing people together and making closer connections – and that’s what we all want, right?!)

Watch this 14 minute video to find out:

  • Why it’s important to be on social media (for most businesses)
  • Why it’s important to get clarity on your fears

  • How to avoid the ‘cocktail party’ and create your own cosy room on Twitter!

Over To You:

What’s your experience with social media – good, bad, indifferent?

How do you manage your time on there, so it doesn’t take over your life?

Please pass it on!

How Can We Embrace Being Authentic?

Being Authentic

Give the gift of healing to your younger self

The second part of this video interview!

Kamala Murphey interviews me on the topic of being authentic, and we have more fun and laughter, as we share together what it means for us and how we can do more of it!.

We discuss the issues around being authentic:

a) What does being authentic mean for me?

b) Why do we avoid it?

c) How can we embrace it?

d) How I use a timeline process with clients to bring them powerful results!

I describe my timeline process to soothe the fears of our younger selves.

I believe that a lot of what holds us back is the avoidance of pain and reluctance to embrace the younger part of ourselves and the memories of hurtful incidents in our past.

Yet I’m also very clear that when we do take the time to listen and to embrace those fears, we CAN resolve those hurts enough to let us step out and do the important work that we’re here to do.

Would you like to learn a technique that will allow you to move through your fears so you can start to take action ?

But wait, there’s more!

Video Interview: The Top Two Benefits Of Being Authentic!

Being authentic

Top two benefits of being authentic!

Continuing my bold exploration into new technology and being visible,

I recorded a video of me being interviewed by Kamala Murphey.

(Kamala helps deeply spiritual women develop the confidence and courage to recognize and say ‘yes’ to their calling. To embolden them to step up in a big way and lead using their heart and feminine strengths – and make great money doing so. You can check out Kamala’s work here. )

This video is in two parts – part 2 will be posted in the next blog!

What’s in the video part 1?

As well as having fun and giggling a lot (and a few tears), we discuss the topic of being authentic

a) I tell the story of the origins of Happy Being You, and what led me to train as a coach.

b) I give my version of the two biggest benefits to being authentic

This is another big stretch out of my comfort zone!

After editing the video (which took me forever in iMovie!) I had a mini-panic thinking

“Is it too long?”,

“Will anyone want to watch it?”.

Yet, as ever in these things, I’ve produced this with guidance from the Universe, and I trust that it will be helpful to some people, and will bring inspiration to others!

If that’s you, then thank you for watching!!

But wait, there’s more!
