Do you have a vision of where you want to get to in your business, yet feel there’s something blocking your path?

It’s so frustrating when on the surface you know you have the skills, knowledge and experience to take your business to the next level, yet there’s always that niggling doubt, and self-sabotage creeps in to undermine your efforts.

Self-sabotage takes many forms…

Do you recognise yourself in any of these?

  • You under charge for your services, give discounts, or feel uncomfortable asking for money.
  • You procrastinate or avoid doing certain activities that would make you more visible; for example public speaking, creating videos or writing articles to promote you or your business.
  • You waste time doing trivial things that don’t bring in revenue – and then feel exhausted and irritable at the end of the working day.
  • The disappointment and frustration continues to linger around you, because you know that you’re not making the difference and the impact that you really want to.

Sound familiar?

When you’re the ‘face’ of your business, it’s hard to take a step back and take an objective view of what’s really going on,  so no wonder these things fester under the surface and undermine your progress.

There is a way you can clear the decks and bring a fresh perspective to all of your activities, so you can quit self-sabotage and make the progress you really want to.

I see the solution as a 7 step process, a journey, that I’ve given the acronym MINDSET.

“My 7 step MINDSET process will help you quit self-sabotage …”

These are the 7 steps of my MINDSET process to help you quit self-sabotage:

1. The M – Manage your Current Reality

Firstly, you need to take a step back, get real and get clear about exactly what is going on in your business and be honest about what’s not working.

It’s not enough to have a niggling discontent, you need to be focussed and objective about what’s actually going on for you.

On the outside, what behaviours are you displaying?

What actions are you taking or not taking, and what’s the impact of that?

You need a clear picture of where you’re getting stuck in your business and what that looks, sounds and feels like.

2. The I – Identify and Disempower your Gremlins

We all have these ‘Gremlins’ inside us and they can take many forms – you might call it ‘inner critic’, ‘monkey mind’, ‘negative self-talk’; they can be stories from our past, old assumptions and beliefs about what’s possible for us, or the nature of how ‘life’ works.

When these are allowed to carry on unconsciously, they can cause great damage and distress. So this step is about saying ‘Hello’ to them and taking away their destructive power over you.

The process of uncovering these can require real honesty and vulnerability.  Any change process must be done sensitively; some of these gremlins are deep-rooted and can involve feelings of shame or unworthiness, and can be attached to our very survival.

That’s why in  my workshops I introduce this topic in a light-hearted way, which takes away the fear and allows you to explore some of your gremlins without the risk of being overwhelmed.

Dare I say this can even be fun!

3. The N –  New Empowering Beliefs

This is the step where you get to decide for yourself what’s true, and create new beliefs, new stories about what happened in your past, and what possibilities exist in your future.

There are many ways to do this, and lots of techniques for belief change out there, some more effective than others.

In my 1:1 coaching with clients who have suffered a trauma or difficult life event in their past that affects their confidence and self-worth, I see time and again how powerful it is to confront the ‘old’ story and create a new more empowering version.

4. The D –  Ditch the Dross and Decide

This step is all about getting clear on your business model and the activities that best suit YOU and your lifestyle; so you can make a bigger difference to more people in a way that energises, not drains you.

Your business model has to fit both your life and your personality, as well as your income goals.

You need to ditch the bits that really don’t fit you, and decide what activities you want to include, that will make you feel excited and energised by the prospect of doing them every day.

5. The S – Support

This step is an essential yet often overlooked element of the entrepreneurial journey, and cannot be underestimated if you want to succeed long term.

We all need support, especially in business, and knowing what it is, why you need it and how to get it, is vital for your well-being and ultimate success.

Once you’ve got support systems in place, and know how to use them, the next step is to get clear on your vision and your goals, in a way that is very specific and measurable.

6. The E –  Empower your Vision

This step is about taking the bigger vision that you have for your business, and turning that into specific, ‘bite-sized’ goals that you can actually take action on.

You need to ask yourself specific questions, and define all aspects of your goal, to make sure that you can achieve it.

For example,

  • What do you want?
  • How will you know when you’ve got it?
  • Can you see, hear, feel, smell or taste it?
  • What are the consequences, (positive and negative) of you achieving it?

Being very specific about your goals and outcomes will enable you to track and measure your results – to make sure you actually get what you want!

7. The T –  Take Focussed Action.

This final step is about making sure that you take action in a way that is most energy and time efficient.

These 7 steps taken in sequence, will allow you to transform your mindset,  and take focussed, effective action, so you can help more people, make a bigger impact, and finally achieve your potential, whilst bringing in the income that you really want.
